La cinta, que es una adaptación de una novela de Lois Duncan, nos cuenta bajo una atmósfera gótica y oscura, y bajo un argumento de terror, la excesiva presión que se le ejerce a los jóvenes para ser siempre los mejores en su campo. La película pasa de puntillas sobre este tema, pero me parecía muy interesante los trabajos forzados que tienen que hacer las chicas 24 horas al día para mejorar sus habilidades, y cómo son rápidamente descartadas si no cumplen las expectativas que se les han impuesto. En cambio en Blackwood, tenemos una historia de pseudo-fantasmas bastante insípida e impersonal que no logra enganchar al espectador. Además el argumento pierde cualquier interés que el espectador pueda tener cuando se resuelve todo enigma y ves como, a parte de que nada tiene demasiado sentido es bastante estúpido. Pero donde más duele es en el trabajo de Rodrigo Cortés, y es que es su trabajo el que logra salvar la película del desastre, su trabajo sobrio y elegante encaja perfectamente con la atmósfera y la fotografía (gran trabajo de Jarin Blaschke) pero todo se viene abajo con los malditos jump scares, ese recurso tan fácil como gratuito que las películas de terror mainstream de los últimos cinco años me han hecho odiarlos de manera visceral. En Blackwood hay un buen número de ellos, y aunque no es tan escandaloso como en otras cintas, se las podrían haber ahorrado todas ellas por innecesarias. Donde tampoco me gustó la dirección es en su último cuarto, una vez ya no hay misterio en el argumento la película se torna demasiado imprecisa, la cámara va de un lado para otro, ocurren demasiadas cosas en muy poco tiempo y su final, bastante ridículo, no deja un buen sabor de boca al espectador. Tal vez si durante la cinta nos se hubiera preocupado de que nos importen mínimamente los personajes, no sería necesario tanto fuego artificial para captar la atención. En el reparto destaca la ya veterana Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction) con un peculiar acento francés que, una vez vista la cinta todavía no sé si quedó auténtico o ridículo.
